Glass Microbiology by Luke Jerram

Artist Luke Jerram makes wonderful glass sculptures that try to capture the beauty of some of the world’s most deadly viruses.

The virus sculptures are approximately 1,000,000 times larger than the actual viruses and are designed in consultation with virologists from the University of Bristol, using a combination of different scientific photographs and models. They are made in collaboration with glassblowers Kim George, Brian Jones and Norman Veitch

Created in clear glass, the sculptures are designed for contemplation and to consider how the artificial colouring of scientific imagery affects our understanding of phenomenon.
