New York's Invisible Women by Trina Merry

New York body artist Trina Merry makes her models invisible by blending in with New York's landmarks.

"I wanted to engage the city and understand it and make some observations."

Merry poses her models and spends hours painting with a brush or an airbrush and hypoallergenic paint.

They have been photographed in front of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, Central Park, the Guggenheim Museum and the iconic towers of downtown Manhattan.

“I was working with urban art as a visual artist and wanted to keep making work with my friends when I transitioned to body paint as my medium. So I started doing these camouflage collaborations.”

"Bodypaint creates a special connection to a person that other visual art forms have trouble accomplishing; it’s a distinctly human experience."

“Painting on the street live gives me a specific energy that is heightened. It’s created and destroyed so fast, that I find I've had to be responsive to it."

And at one point, Ms Merry had to repaint some of her model after the owner of a van in the background got into it and drove away.

During the shoot last week, a police officer stopped and spoke to the artist after receiving a complaint about her work.

"... The police came up to confront Jessica and I while painting "DUMBO", despite the fact she was in underwear and in a classic fine art statuesque pose that covered her chest. The NYPD really had nothing to threaten me with.."
