16th Century Prayer Nuts

This delicate wooden sphere was microscopically carved out of soft boxwood using tiny knives and chisels and was an objet d’art from the Middle Ages.

It was created for the 15th century nobility in the Netherlands, that could be carried (Worn around the neck attached to a rosary or on the owners belt) and used for private worship.

To enhance the user's emotional experience, aromatic plants and oils were often inserted into the woodwork.
