UK artists Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey use grass as a living photographic medium.

They manipulate the light-sensitive chlorophyll of young growing grass using a 400-W projector bulb passing through a negative for prolonged periods of time, in order to produce different shadows and shades of yellows and greens. The light produces green, or darker tones, while lack of light produces lighter (yellow) tones.

They imprint photographic images on to grass grown vertically, so that the image is on the length of the blade. As the grass grows, the image becomes sharper.

Although the portraits last for months, the works fade from their crisp and green state over time, just like old photos.
