Horsham, Victoria, Australia artist Michael, aka Moerkey, bends and solders discarded keys and coins into beautiful art.



“Not so long ago, when I was supposed to be cleaning out my shed, I came across some old copper pipe saved from a previous renovation. I cut it up into rings and started making it into spheres. The first ones were a bit rough but once I worked out the technique I got creative.”



“I’m a bit of a hoarder and searched around for all those old keys and copper wire, that were no longer needed, and got creative with them as well.”



"My work space is a small space in our garage which is jammed packed with bikes, camping gear, woodworking tools and timber and now numerous bits of old copper pipe, keys and pennies which are the raw materials from which I create these works of art."

Hungarian Banknote Concept Designed by Barbara Bernát

Budapest-based graphic designer Barbara Bernát designed this lovely concept for the Hungarian paper money, for her MA degree project at the University of West Hungary.



The project involved five denominations of ten etchings, each imprinted onto separate copperplates.



The security feature reveals the skeleton of each animal under UV light.



"I only wanted to keep the essential visual elements of a banknote. I wanted to emphasize the animals and plants — the typography and the security marks are secondary on my notes. I left the the unnecessary security graphic elements behind, to get a clear visual impact."



“This subtle and refined form of reproduction enabled me to imitate the original technique used during the production of banknotes, intaglio printing. My goal was to create a complete series with clear design that transcends the tradition of banknote making.”

Money-made Portraits by Evan Wondolowski

American artist Evan Wondolowski creates these impressive portraits of celebrities and politicians using thousands of paper strips from shredded U.S. Federal Reserve Notes.



"I’ve been obsessed with money for as long as I can remember. It’s the foundation of society and affects everything within it. Although people have become divided by politics, religions, and languages, we are all united by our collective dependence on money."



"My work transforms currency from a medium of exchange to a medium of expression. While the money used in these portraits is no longer valid as legal tender, its destruction has created an opportunity to create a new thing of value by simply reconstructing its parts."



Each portrait can take up to a month or more to finish.
