3D Projections on Trees by Clément Briend

Paris-based photographer Clément Briend created these haunting digital projections on trees, placing them on the streets of Paris and Cambodia.

Cambodian Trees

“Cambodian culture is deeply rooted in a spirituality – marked by a belief in genii and fantasy creatures. In a dark cityscape, night reveals the presence of divine creatures on trees and subsequently makes them alive and real. Such nocturnal visions allow us to grasp the way magic profoundly influences how Cambodian people perceive the world.”

“I use optical projections to create images in reality.”

“I always wanted to photograph the world without it being too faithful to what it is.”

"It’s a beautiful surprise when the projected spirits awaken and reveal themselves at night as though they are made of the towering trees themselves. The photographic light installations echo the spirituality of the few sprouts of nature in the predominantly urban landscapes. It is a visual imagining of the divine figures that inhabit the world, as seen through an environmentally aware spiritual eye."

Reconnected by Philippe Handford

Chief designer and lead artist Philippe Handford created these sculptures in Aitken Wood, near Barley for Pendle Sculpture Trail called 'Reconnected 1' and 'Reconnected 2', to show what trees look like just as they're about to fall and evoke a sense of perpetual movement.

"My work on the trail is site specific and inspired by the location. Both Reconnected 1 and 2 are on the site of illegally felled trees. My sculptures are an attempt to visually reunite tree stump and trunk."

"I love the challenges presented by the environment, terrain and weather. The piece has practical considerations so a metal support structure is required but kept to a minimum so as not to detract from the natural element."

"Designing a frame for an isolated location brings it's own challenges and relies on accurate dimensions and detailed survey of the site. The trunk was sliced before I designed the supporting structure. Each trunk slice is supported by a bracket that is individually bolted to the frame. The two ends of the curved steel is welded to a ring that fits the profile of the trunk."

Amazing Papercraft by Lobulo Design

London-based Lobulo Design creates wonderful designs using paper.

"I realised what I wanted to be when I grew up, while shopping with my mother at the supermarket. I would always make her pick the cereals for the picture on the cover, rather than for what was actually inside. Naturally, I ended up studying graphic design and marketing, learning that there’s much more to a computer than just playing pacman."

"A variety of unique, creative collaborations, as well as more than 10 years experience of working for various graphic design and marketing studios in Barcelona, have meant that I have filled the streets, and a few hard disks, with my designs, illustrations, editorial projects and concepts. Small or large, formal or informal, but always expressing emotions. Always sending out a message."
