Hats Off to Philip Treacy

Philip Treacy, a professional milliner (=a hat maker: someone who makes and sells hat) known for his unique creations.

"Hats have always been part of difficult times," Treacy affirms. "During the war, wearing a pretty hat was one of the few ways to cheer people up. When you look at a hat, love it or hate it, you're entertained."

His designs are not only beautiful, but true works of art. See more of his recent collections below :)

Philip started sewing when he was only 5-years-old and that was what he liked doing. His first hats and dresses were made for sister’s dolls and other toys.

"I don't really believe in trends for hats because hats should be a symbol of individuality. No woman wants to bump into somebody else in a similar hat."

"The races are also an opportunity to be a bit daring," he said.

He has designed hats for Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Middleton.

"A person carries off the hat. Hats are about emotion. It is all about how it makes you feel. I like hats that make the heart beat faster."

"I think people should choose something that says something about who they are and makes them feel good."

"A lot of people don't always have the confidence to wear a hat but what they don't necessarily understand is that the hat actually gives you confidence."
