Impressive Mosaics of Saimir Strati

Albanian artist Saimir Strati created some of the most original and impressive mosaics in the world.

"I look at different things that attract my attention and think of turning them into mosaics."

"I was especially inspired when I first visited the ruins of the ancient town of Apollonia. There I saw leftovers of antique mosaics. I find it really fascinating that some buildings only last about one hundred years, while some mosaics can resist time for more than 3000 years. They are just like skeletons of dinosaurs."

Nail Mosaic - Leonardo Da Vinci

In 2006, Saimir Strati re-created the self portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci using nearly 400 kilos of industrial nails over a 6 1/2 x 13 feet surface. The technique resembles digital photography, in that each nail represents a pixel.

It took 500,000 nails and 24 days to complete. This nail mosaic won Saimir Strati his first Guinness Record, on September 4, 2006, as the World's Largest Nail Mosaic.

Toothpick Mosaic - Reinless Spirit

On July 26 2007, Strati create the image of a horse made out of 1.5 million toothpicks over a 4x2m surface.

Strati used different varieties of wood, and different toothpick lengths, to give his artwork depth.

It took 13 hours a day, for 40 days, to finish this 8m2 (86.11 sq. feet) artwork.

The work was dedicated to Antonio Gaudi, and was confirmed on September 4, 2007 as the World's Largest Toothpick Mosaic.

Cork Mosaic - Mediterraneana

In August 2008, Strati used 229,764 corks of various shapes and sizes over a surface of 12.94m x7.10m, or 91.87m2 to create “Romeo with a crown of grapes playing the guitar while dancing with the sea and the sun”, a homage to life around the Mediterranean.

Using the same technique people used to create mosaics 2,000 years ago, Saimir Strati worked 14 hours a day, for 28 days.

Paint Brush Mosaic - Michael Jackson

In October 2009, Strati created a giant mosaic of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, using paint brushes. The installation was presented on the side of a truck, in Durres, 40 km from Albania’s capital city, Tirana.

Working 16 hours a day, for 28 days, Strati used 230,000 different color paint brushes to create the masterpiece that earned him his fourth Guinness Record, for the World’s Biggest Paint Brush Mosaic.

Screw Mosaic - Artists Banknote

In November 2010, Strati created The Largest Screw Mosaic which he dedicated to the Artists all over the World.

He created this bank note because he explains that Artist have not they own money and because he thinks that for the real Artists the money is not so important they are blind towards it, that's way he put it the Portrait of Hommer because he was blind and could not see.

The mosaic has over 350,000 industrial screws, measures 490 x 240 cm and features a portrait of Greek poet Homer in the middle of a giant banknote, entitled “currency of the soul”. Saimir Strati Finish these Art Piece in two weeks.

Coffee Beans Mosaic - One World, One Family, One Coffee

In September 4 2008, Saimir Strati got his 6 Guinness World Record for The Largest Coffee bean Mosaic in the World.

In these mosaic were 5 Characters Witch Represented each a Continent. South America with samba dancer, North America with a cowboy, Asia with a Chinese girl playing tambourine, Europe with a old man that plays a firzamonik, and Africa with an African boy who plays tribal music. The objective of Strati’s work is to inspire of sense of unit across the world.

Strati painstakingly working on his one million coffee beans mosaic in Tirana, Albania. His unique artwork measure 25m2 and weigh 140 kilograms.
