Japan stone sculpture artist, Hirotoshi Ito creates unique structures with a sense of humor.

Ito collects his art supplies, various kinds of stones and rocks ranging from granite and marble, along the Azusa riverbank near his home.

Ito, who has been a stone mason for more than 30 years, said: “Many of the things I sculpt are used in everyday life but are often taken for granted. I wanted to fossilise them."

“My family business is masonry so it made sense to work in stone, which is rarely used in Japan but has a sense of charm."

With the addition of zippers, Ito has turned rock into anything but a solid substance.
