"It seemed appropriate to use the nation's flag, the fabric of America, reconfigured to reflect the positive notions of change and the aspirations to rebuild the United States."

To celebrate Valentine's Day and President's Day, Rosen constructed a portrait of America's 44th and 16th presidents using over 5,900 cupcakes at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC. Each cupcake served as a pixel of colour, and the treats were promptly eaten by the museum's visitors after the installation piece ended.

This portrait made from 1,638 pennies (1,612 whole pennies and 52 half pennies). There are 52 rows. Each row has 31 and 1 half pennies. The pennies are fastened to a piece of pressed wood (masonite) primarily using contact cement.
Rubik's Cubes Martin Luther King Jr. by Pete Fecteau
Titled 'Dream Big', the mosaic is made of 4,242 officially licensed Rubik’s Cubes by Pete Fecteau.

The construction process took a little over 40 hours. Each cube has been “reversed solved” or twisted so that one of the faces maps its nine stickers into the total image, 38,178 stickers total. It measures 19′ x 8’6″ x 2.25″ (5.8m x 2.6m x 5.7cm ) and weighs roughly 1000 pounds (454kg).

The cubes were rented through the You Can Do The Cube organization for roughly $8,000. However the total cost of the project was approximately $9,000. A private donation was made for $4,000 and fundraising through special events and Kickstarter.com helped to raise the remainder.

Marco Cianfanelli creates this sculpture in Howick, South Africa to mark 50 years Nelson Mandela’s arrest by the apartheid police.

The honorary sculpture was built of 50 steel columns that symbolize prison bars, and you can see Mandela’s face if you view them at certain angle.
