Turkish sculptor Selçuk Yılmaz (previously here) is back with three new amazing sculptures made of thin strands of hammered and welded steel, depicting the heads of a lynx, tiger, and fox.

Industrial Doilies by Cal Lane

Artist Cal Lane burns delicate lace like patterns into reclaimed steel objects for her series of 'Industrial Doilies'.



"I like to work as a visual devil’s advocate, using contradiction as a vehicle for finding my way to an empathetic image, an image of opposition that creates a balance - as well as a clash - by comparing and contrasting ideas and materials.This manifested in a series of “Industrial Doilies”, pulling together industrial and domestic life as well as relationships of strong and delicate, masculine and feminine, practical and frivolity, ornament and function."



"In this Structure I hand cut lace trimming patterns into 9 I-beams, then constructed a tower, simultaneously macho, and of delicate finery. The metaphor of lace further intrigued me by its associations of hiding and exposing at the same time; like a veil to cover, or lingerie to reveal. It also introduces a kind of humor through the form of unexpected relationships. Like a Wrestler in a tutu, the absurdity of having opposing extremist stances is there for reaction and not rational understanding; the rational discussion arises in the search for how one thing defines the other by its proximity."

Vanishing Sliced Steel Sculpture by Julian Voss-Andreae

German-American sculptor Julian Voss-Andreae created this incredible 8-foot sculpture, called 'Quantum Man', that visually disappears when looked from a certain angle, made of a series of layered steel sheets.



"When approached from the front or back, the sculpture seems to consist of solid steel, but when seen from the side it visually disappears almost completely. This fascinating effect offers a range of possible interpretations. In the context of quantum physics–inspired art it is natural to see Quantum Man as a metaphor for the wave-particle duality, the phenomenon that all matter exhibits wave-like or particle-like properties depending on the experimental question we ask."

Welded Steel Animal Sculpture by David Freedman

Artist David Freedman created these animal sculptures using wrought iron, bronze, stainless steel and carved wood.



"My work is usually based on natural forms and though it is not abstract, I never seek to copy nature, but mimic shapes, explore its patterns and rhythms and produce work that creates atmosphere and life."



The UK Forestry Commission asked him to make a sculpture for the Wyre Forest in Worcestershire, England as part of a sensory trail.



"I chose the fallow deer to represent the local wildlife and I designed it to be more of a shadow or 'spirit of a deer' than a lifelike representation. I wanted to give viewers the sensation you get when you chance upon a secretive animal in the distance, silent and camouflaged. Hence he is not intended to be a solid object."



"The piece took about two months to construct, using hand forged wrought iron. It stands about 9 feet tall in total and it has been galvanised for long term protection. The galvanising process produces a bright shiny finish, so I dulled this with a mild acid to a more aged, tarnished finish."

South Korean sculptor Byeong Doo Moon created these stainless steel sculpture as part of Sculpture by the Sea 2014 in Sydney that runs through November 9th.

Baroque Style Truck by Wim Delvoye

Belgian artist Wim Delvoye (previously here) creates these laser-cut Corten steel structures using an intricate lattice design inspired by Gothic architecture.



This scaled model (1:5) titled 'Twisted Dump Truck' is gradually twists 90 degrees counterclockwise, so the tail end of the vehicle appears to be lying on its side.
