Miniature Pottery by Jon Almeda

Washington-based artist Jon Almeda creates these detailed small scale ceramics using a custom designed motorized curio wheel.



"I am a bit of an extremist. For many years I was throwing massive pieces, the bigger the better type mentality. While browsing a book store, I came across a book called “Creating Ceramic Miniatures” that really changed my whole outlook and approach. I went to the opposite end of the spectrum and began working in 1″ scale. Throwing small really allows me to focus on the shape and form of a piece. It is a very meditative form of creation. I enjoy the process of making small vases and bowls that without any scale or context look exactly like their larger counterpart in detail and proportion."



"Inspiration comes from the surrounding areas where I spend most my time. The calm cool dark waters and tall evergreens of the Pacific Northwest and the luscious flora and textures of the ocean in Hawaii."

Paperlike Ceramics by Alberto Bustos

Spanish artist Alberto Bustos created these ceramic sculptures that look delicate like paper, inspired by nature.



Bustos's work will be included in Mas De Les Gralles with 40 other international artists on 13th June outside of Barcelona.

Ocean-Inspired Ceramic Sculptures by Denise Romecki

Central Ohio-based artist Denise Romecki creates these ocean-inspired ceramic sculptures using stoneware clay that requires at least two kiln firings.



"The mystery and beauty of nature is the inspirational force behind my work. Growing up near Presque Isle State Park on the shores of Lake Erie the seed was planted for a life long relationship with the outdoors. I feel a heightened awareness and a spiritual renewal when hiking, walking a beach, or just being in my garden."



"Through my hands clay becomes the connection between my creative process and the diverse power of nature. Narrative, symbolic, or decorative, my organic sculptures bring to mind the raw elements of trees, plants, earth, and water."



"Each piece is original, hand sculpted in stoneware clay requiring at least two kiln firings. Originally from Erie, PA, I received my BFA from Columbus College of Art & Design and MFA from The Ohio State University. I have been exhibiting my work since 1978 and my work can be found in many businesses and private homes throughout the country."



"Natural clay as a raw material is a gift of the earth. Clay sculpture is a means to honor that gift. My artwork has always been inspired by the natural world of forests, plants, rocks, oceans, and animals. Attracted by the infinite shapes, colors, and textures they have to offer and the inner affect that they have on our souls. But where does man fit in, how have we helped or hindered the natural order of things? I continue to reflect on this subject and draw on the ancient beliefs of many of the American Indians; that all things have a spirit and deserve our respect."

Surrealist Sculptures by Ellen Jewett

Canadian artist Ellen Jewett (previously here) blends plants, animals, and man-made devices to create these fantastical animal.



"Plants and animals have always been the surface on which humans have etched the foundations of culture, sustenance, and identity. For myself, natural forms are a continual source of fascination and deep aesthetic pleasure."



"At first glance my work explores the more modern prosaic concept of nature: a source of serene nostalgia balanced with the more visceral experience of 'wildness' as remarkably alien and indifferent. Upon closer inspection of each 'creature' the viewer may discover a frieze on which themes as familiar as domestication and as abrasive as domination fall into sharp relief. These qualities are not only present in the final work but are fleshed out in the process of building."



"Each sculpture is constructed using an additive technique, layered from inside to out by an accumulation of innumerable tiny components. Many of these components are microcosmic representations of plants, animals and objects. Some are beautiful, some are grotesque and, some are fantastical. The singularity of each sculpture is the sum total of its small narrative structures."



"Over time I find my sculptures are evolving to be of greater emotional presence by using less physical substance: I subtract more and more to increase the negative space. The element of weight, which has always seemed so fundamentally tied to the medium of sculpture, is stripped away and the laws of gravity are no longer in full effect. In reading the stories contained in each piece we are forced to acknowledge their emotional gravity cloaked as it is in the light, the feminine, the fragile, and the unknowable."
