'Tio' Light Switch System

Its an interesting design from Tim Holley, that gives kids a visual reminder of how much energy they used by leaving the lights on.

Tio starts out green and smiling. If the light is left on for more than four hours, he turns yellow and looks shocked. And if you dare to leave that light on for more than eight hours, sweet little Tio turns into a raging red hulk, complete with frowny mouth and angry eyes.

But he won't just visually remind your kids about their energy habits; information from the light switch is sent to Tio's computer program so the entire family can see how they're doing. In a brilliant piece of visual positive reinforcement, Holley's program lets kids grow a “virtual tree” which gets bigger and healthier the more energy they save.

Deweaponizing The Gun by Walton Creel

Alabama-based artist Walton Creel found a way of deweaponizing the gun by using it to create art.

'Deweaponizing the Gun' is a series of large scale "drawings" created by shooting complicated patterns through 6x4' white painted sheets of aluminum with a .22 caliber rifle given to him by his father as a present.

"My main goal was to take the destructive power away from the gun. To manipulate the gun into a tool of creation and use it in a way that removed it from its original purpose, to deweaponize it," he said.

London artist Keira Rathbone uses vintage typewriters to create these mind boggling portraits and drawings.

Keira Rathbone bought a typewriter from a second-hand shop when she was in university. She uses it as a medium for her drawings. Using a series of numbers, letters, and symbols, she creates these beautiful enigmatic images – spending almost 90 hours on each piece.

Micro Sculptures by Willard Wigan

Willard Wigan is the creator of the world’s smallest sculptures.

Working between heartbeats to avoid hand tremors, it takes months for him to complete one.

“You have to control the whole nervous system, you have to work between the heartbeat – the pulse of your finger can destroy the work,” he said.

Wigan uses a tiny surgical blade to carve microscopic figures out of rice, and fragments of grains of sand and sugar, which are then mounted on pin tips, pin heads, nails, matchsticks, anything particularly thin and small.

To paint his creations, he uses a hair plucked from a dead fly (the fly has to have died from natural causes, as he refuses to kill them for the sake of his art).
