Wire Bird Sculptures by Celia Smith

UK artist Celia Smith create delicate bird sculptures and installations using various forms of wire, that look like detailed sketches drawn by pen.

"I use wire to create sculptures. Each sculpture that I make is a three-dimensional drawing with the wires representing a quality of line."

"Birds are my main inspiration; capturing their movement and character is my primary concern. I find that wire has a spontaneity that can give my sculptures a feeling of life and energy."

"I like the fact that you can change it and re-work things in wire. And I think birds and wire go together. The wire gives the sculptures a sense of lightness and movement that you wouldn’t get if you used other materials."

"I always have a sketch book on the go and when I visit a reserve to study a particular bird, I make a series of sketches (although I will also do little wire studies) which I then build up in the studio to make a life-size piece."

"I don’t really like using photographs as I find the results too staid and too detailed – they’re quite frustrating. I find I get to understand how a bird moves and flies much better if I study it for several hours and try and capture it on paper. All birds have different characters – some are more twitchy than others – and you need to look at them closely to get their character."

3D Floral Watercolor Drawing by Lim Zhi Wei

Singaporean artist Lim Zhi Wei and her team made a series of “flowergirls” which features watercolor images of ladies with beautiful dresses made of flower petals.

"For the flower series, I tend to avoid portraying certain specific characters as I wish every viewer could relate the art in his/her own way of imagination. Most of them are drawn directly from my mind."

For this 'Maleficent', Lim making full use of an entire rose. The horns are made of sepals and the wand is a rose stem. The cloak is made of petals.

"In this artwork, I try to fuse the watercolor and dyed rose so everything looks 'blended' together without any obvious edges of the paint and petals."

Milky Pin-Ups by Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz

London-based artist and Founder of AurumLight Studio Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz pouring milk on pin-up girls and captures with high-speed liquid photography that it looks like a perfectly crafted dress, entitled 'Milky Pin-Ups'.

"This time I thought it will be cool to approach the liquid theme in a more relaxed and funny way."

"So we threw some colors into the mix and came up with a personal Milky PinUp tribute to my favorite pin-up style artists."

"Liquid Illustrations are made with milk or water. Using special lighting and camera the movement and the splash of liquid is frozen in time and morphed into hi-fashion."

"Yes, real milk is thrown onto a real model. Every single element, splash and prop is photographed on the day and in the same time. We really throw liquid on the body of the model – it is as simple as that."

"But at the same time it is a very precise, and “technically” orientated work that requires a lot of dedication and patience from the whole team."

"Some illustrations need around 200 frames to make sure that we have everything, others even more than that."

"The bottom line is that every single element you see in the final illustration comes from a RAW photograph–it is not painted in Photoshop. The number of frames with separate splashes of milk are layered in Photoshop and carefully seamlessly mixed to complete the dress."
