Sculptures Made of Cutlery by Gary Hovey

Ohio-based artist Gary Hovey builds these intricate sculptures using stainless steel forks, knives, and spoons.

"My sculptures are about things that I enjoy – wildlife, welding, and humor. Art, especially sculpture, has always been a big part of my life, just behind the Bible and family."

"I have been challenged with the effects of Parkinson’s disease since diagnosis in 1994. Producing and showing my work is very therapeutic for me. My heart-felt thanks is to God for all who have encouraged me and supported me with their love and prayers."

Hovey get the flatware mostly from his dad, Bob Hovey. He finds it at flea markets and garage sales and ships it from Oklahoma.

"I can use only stainless steel flatware because of the welding process I use. Silver melts at a much lower temperature than stainless steel, so it just gets destroyed by the high heat."

It took him from hours to months to complete each sculpture, depending on the size and detail.
