Oxford based illustrator and embroidery artist Chloe Giordano creates this stitched illustrations of tiny animals rendered with freehand embroidery, layering countless thread colors to make the detailed work.

"I’m just packing the stitches together and using sewing thread. I wanted to go into traditional illustration before I began sewing so I’ve spent a lot of time drawing and painting and still work from a detailed sketch, which I think probably helps."

"I approach needle painting a lot like how I paint, and I wouldn’t paint with one colour at a time, so I have several on the go so I can blend as I stitch. I guess I can see how one at a time would work with traditional needle painting, but since I tend to work with several tones at the same time and in a very small space I would be tying off and changing colour every couple of minutes."
