Light Paintings by David Gilliver

David Gilliver created these light paintings around Channel Island of Guernsey where he lives.

"My camera allows me to express myself in the way that I choose to – and that’s really important to me."

“I didn’t want to just take normal pictures like everyone else.”

“The concept of condensing time into one single frame by taking one picture with a four-five minute exposure really excited me.”

“That notion of me becoming the painter and the landscape being the canvas added an extra layer of intrigue for me.”

He is using a Nikon D800 along with the wide-angled Nikon AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens.

“It’s well suited to light painting because of the excellent 36.3 megapixel CMOS sensor this camera has. Noise levels are very low (which is very important for any night photography work) even in very dark conditions and the quality of the images it captures is superb.”
